Documentary screening at NYU. The film “Listening With Their Eyes” (director Gail Noppe Brandon) will have a public screening Monday, April 14 2008. As a writer on the project, Amy worked on shaping the footage into a narrative. The film tells the story of a diverse group of city teenagers who come together to study with a communications coach. Over ten weeks, they work on acting and playwriting as a means of finding the confidence to express themselves.
New draft of "By Proxy" to have staged reading in NYC. Directed by William Carden. Commissioned by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, "By Proxy" tells the story of Sonia, a young M.D.-Ph.D. specializing in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, whose research comes into conflict with her growing suspicions about the deaths of several infants in one of her most closely studied families. One Thing" gets thumbs up. Reviews are in from the Clubbed Thumb production of "One Thing I Like to Say Is," which had a week-long run at the Ohio Theatre in New York in mid-June. The New York Times calls it "sensitive" and "deeply personal" and nytheatre.com says it's a "rich and strange journey that's well worth taking." Show Showdown found it "quietly affecting and finally moving."
Two new plays to open in New York in June. "One Thing I Like to Say Is," a Susan Smith Blackburn finalist, plays at the Ohio Theatre in SoHo for six nights only — June 17 to 23, 2007. A quirky, playful drama, "One Thing" tells the story of a brother and sister who call upon the imaginative games of their childhood to help them navigate their troubled adult lives. Produced by Clubbed Thumb.
Playing concurrently is "Casting," part of the Ensemble Studio Theatre's annual marathon of one-act plays. In "Casting," a teenage girl plays casting director to try to secure a Latin rock star father in time for Father's Day. Tickets are here.
One-act to play in Albuquerque. "Silver Men," a one-act, will be produced in "The Seven: No Regrets," a festival of new works at the Fusion Theatre Company. Runs June 21-24, 2007.

Amy's a Susan Smith Blackburn finalist! Amy's play "One Thing I Like to Say Is" was one of twelve finalists for the 2006-2007 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. This annual award is given to a female playwright in recognition of one exceptional work. Two one-acts to open for a three-week run. One acts "Double Click" and "The Man Who Didn't Own a Hat Shop" will be featured in an evening of vignettes called "Estimated Time of Arrival" about the complexity of modern day relationships.
